You Can

Working alongside generous individuals, businesses and organisations EofUs develops You Can opportunities for people to get involved in and act. Sometimes these are small acts for you and your family to enjoy, or bigger acts that contribute to the community.

Many of the people we have grown to know and love feature in ‘Voices of the City’, a film commissioned by Hull City Council. The film created to support the development of the cities new cultural strategy asked – What is culture? Of course HU3 folks had lots of good stuff to say on the subject inviting us all to think on what we do, get involved in and enjoy. You Can watch the film HERE

EofUs commissions HU3 artists to lead You Cans. These opportunies support artist and offer folks opportunites to get creative. We have worked with ceramicist Zirvana Murphy, graff artist Mike Scrout, poet Vicky Foster, puppeteer Liz Dorton and more. These opportunities are always free.

Walk and Talk is an inititave developed with Chiltern Community Hub and open to everyone. Our walks take place every few months with the intention to gather, support each other and explore the city in and beyond HU3. Around walking, drinking coffee, eating biscuits and talking about life we visit cultural spaces and introduce people to new places. We’ve visited places such as Wilberforce Houe, 87 Gallery, discussed the historic artworks at The Ferens and thought about what we might make to sell in FORM.

Flower Club is a collaboration between EofUS and two HU3 institutions – Graham’s the Florists and Rayners Pub. It builds on the interests of landlady Rachel and florist Tommy to do more for their community, try something new and work together. Flower Club is in the process of becoming sustainable and enable monthly sessions to take place. A small contribution from participants will be matched through funds from the brewery Proper Pubs enabling access for people who cannot afford even a minimal contribution. Dates of the next Flower Club will be on @eofushu3

George Norris is HU3 born and bred. He’s a self taught photographer and his work celebrates the community. EofUS works alongside him to showcase his photographs and bring larger audience to his work. George, EofUs and local businesses selected a series of images for a street level exhibition on their windows and walls. You can find them at:
The Ryder Social Club, Wellstead Street, Hull Fishing Heritage Centre. Choppers Cafe, Rayners Club, Halfway Hotel and Dairycoates Inn.

The Aimless Archive has led two HU3 walking tours, where participants are invited to explore, take photos, take notes, take in the view and take time to share their thoughts. The first tour explored Stories of Storage on Hessle Road and the second You And Me In HU3 the exhibition by George Norris and Russel Boyce, at Humber Street Gallery. You can download the prompt cards HERE.

We hold temporary exhibitions on a series of table tops at Rayner pub. Currently prints by Layla Jabbari commissioned for Come to Tea in HU3 are on display. Previously we have shown portraits from the We Believe in love not luck project and photographs by George Norris.

HU3 is full of important historical and contemporary architecture. In partnership with housing charity Giroscope and their architect Caroline we explored it all. Including the Sturgeon laden fountain at its centre, Georgian town houses once owned by rich merchants, the 512 Planes and 130 Limes planted to create grand Boulevards and Giroscopes beautiful new houses built for locals with sustainable materials and ecco credentials.

EofUs regualarly works in collaboration with Boulevard Academy Art Department and Chiltern Primary School. We support with workshops, artist talks and opportunities to exhibit work both in school and in spaces across the area.
