HuFree Gallery is a brand new gallery in HU3 neighbourhood that works with local residents, groups, businesses and creatives, to programme photographic, film and print exhibitions and activities. Opening May 2025.
The gallery aims to celebrate a rich seam of photographers and film makers focusing on, or coming from working class life who are largely from HU3 and Hull, but with occasional national and international guests. We want to reveal the kind of lives, past and present, that are often hidden and paid scant attention.
Alongside the exhibitions a small supporting programme will run of talks and workshops. HuFree Gallery has an ambition to generate a range of photography based training and skills development opportunities.
We have developed the gallery with Western Library, who are, like us, keen to celebrate the area, utlise their assets and generate relevant cultural experiences for residents and wider communities. EofUs works in collaboration with many HU3 people, businesses and organisations, responding to their ideas and in support of our ethos ‘to create congenial spaces for everyone in which good things happen‘. Through this work we aim to spot the unique and incredible things happening here that often go unnoticed, including the prevalence of photography in and about the area that is, ironically, also not visible enough.
HuFree: Gallery believes in safe spaces, where people and their stories are celebrated.
