Goodness

Access to good food, health, joy… has emerged as a significant need on HU3. We work closely with partners and locally based organisations to consider what we can collectively do to make more available for everyone.

Over 2022/23 months EofUs held three Food for Thought events, with open invites to anyone interested in food, its sustainability and fair access to it. Collectively we explored what we might do together. At the third event a food festival, with activism for change at its heart, was imagined and plans put in place. Since then funding has been found and HU3 Come to Tea went live in July 2024.

Cook and Share brings Chiltern Primary parents together to enjoy and try different foods. Everyone creates their favourite dish which we then enjoy together over a shared lunch. Turkish Dolma’s made from vine leaves grown in HU3, Russian salad, Hull Fish Pie, Ethiopian Curries, Somalian Injera and Chocolate cake have all featured.
A HU3 recipe book is now available – contact us directly.

Chippy Teas are central to many EofUs gatherings and we work closely with Hayley at Heritage Fisheries on Hessle Road to make them happen. We love her patties, peas and breadcakes and their ability to bring people together.

You Can’s often focus on being well and thinking beyond the symptons we are prescribed against. The de-stress Aricular Acupuncture and Meditation session led by Mel at eMBe is just one example of support we’ve offered. HU3 has many complimentary therapists and we support access to them for residents who may find it hard to put themselves first because of confidence issues, kids, work and busy lives.

Created by and for the HU3 community, HU3 Come to Tea is a food inspired festival with a difference. It brought people together and raises awareness of what the area offers. Between 15 – 28 July 2024 HU3 Come to Tea, alongside high street businesses, local food providers, artists, local community groups and residents unearthed, connected, filled bellies, activated and celebrated.

Alongside W.A.N.T and Rayners we developed an important food project that saw delicious cooked food served in the pub, on a Pay What You Feel basis. The meals, created from scratch using locally sourced/surplus ingredients, nourished HU3 folks while also building community through this shared social event. Our aim was to bring good food to a place where people need it, while also having a good time. This project has developed into a regular offer made by Rayners to all residents.
The project was featured on BBC Look North

HU3 boasts many fabulous food producers and EofUs generates many opportunities through You Can’s to eat, make, try and explore the areas rich food offer. One group for example worked with Patrick at Artisan at Home to create Foccacia and Sour Doughs.
