LOVE/LUCK

In 2024/25 EofUs and photographer Tony Ward from Top Color, Hessle Road, connected with people via his shop and our ongoing work. Resulting in We believe in love not luck, a deep collaboration that documented lives in photography and ceramics and celebrated them through social events, pop up exhibitions and a publication.

Everyone included was connected to the Hessle Road area. Their lives are shaped by being there, forged as part of the community’s long but changing docklands history. Some came from families who, for generations, have lived and worked there. Others arrived more recently. With all contributing to this area’s rich docklands heritage. The project began as an exploration into the maritime tattoos seen on many of the areas older men. It developed into a process of collecting the visible and invisible marks people carry; marks that represent identity, struggle, love and history.
The work has been shown at Hull Central Library and Top Color, Chiltern Primary School, as a temporary large-scale display on Hessle Road hoardings and in Issue 4 and 5 of the EofUs newspaper.
